Assaí Market Share Rises as Deleveraging Gains Momentum

More than 40 million monthly visits fueled a record-breaking second quarter for Assaí, as the retailer posted R$ 21.4 billion in gross revenue. Amidst a turbulent macroeconomic backdrop, the company successfully funneled its cash generation into financial restructuring, achieving its lowest leverage ratio since late 2021.

The company’s performance reflects a 2.4% year-over-year revenue increase, bolstered by a 3.4% surge in customer traffic and a 0.3 percentage point market share gain under the same-store metric. Operating cash generation hit R$ 2.7 billion over the trailing twelve months, providing the necessary liquidity to reduce financial leverage to 2.37x—a significant 0.8x drop compared to the previous year. Recurring net income for the quarter settled at R$ 344 million.

CEO Belmiro Gomes attributed these results to disciplined capital allocation and operational efficiency. Beyond core retail gains, the firm accelerated its 2026 strategic roadmap by launching Assaí Farma units in São Paulo and expanding private label offerings. Digital initiatives also saw aggressive scaling, highlighted by a 237% jump in last-mile sales through iFood and the rollout of a marketplace pilot via Mercado Livre.
