i2Cool Debuts Dual-Action Coating to Combat Heat and Corrosion

Hong Kong-based i2Cool has unveiled i2Coating CorroCool, a silane-based system engineered to protect industrial infrastructure from both extreme solar heat and environmental decay. By merging passive radiative cooling with C5-grade corrosion resistance, the product aims to eliminate the need for separate thermal and protective coating layers on metal assets.

Industrial metal surfaces, from petrochemical storage tanks to telecommunications cabinets, often endure temperatures between 60°C and 80°C under direct sunlight. This heat accelerates material fatigue and spikes cooling costs, while moisture and chemical pollutants simultaneously trigger structural corrosion. CorroCool resolves these persistent challenges by integrating high-solids silane polymers with nano-functional cooling particles.

The chemical foundation of the coating relies on silane groups that form strong Si–O–metal bonds during the curing process. This creates a dense, three-dimensional barrier against corrosive agents. Complementing this protection, the material mimics the cooling mechanisms found in Sahara silver ants. It achieves a solar reflectance of at least 92% and a thermal emittance of 95% within the 8–13 μm atmospheric window, allowing the coating to shed heat as mid-infrared radiation without the use of electricity.

Developed in collaboration with Kinte Materials Science and Technology Co., the solution is rated for C5 high-durability protection. Testing confirms a salt-spray resistance exceeding 1,440 hours and an adhesion strength above 10 MPa. By consolidating anticorrosive and thermal-control functions into a single application, the system simplifies maintenance workflows for power facilities, offshore infrastructure, and large-scale manufacturing sites.
