APA Calls for Proposals for 2027 National Planning Conference

Houston will serve as the backdrop for the American Planning Association’s upcoming national gathering, as the organization opens its call for educational session proposals. Planners have until August 26, 2026, to submit insights on urban design and community development for the event, which is scheduled for May 15–18, 2027.

The conference serves as a primary hub for urban designers, transportation experts, and planning commissioners to exchange strategies on critical issues. APA President Sue Schwartz, FAICP, noted that the event aims to translate complex challenges into actionable solutions for resilient communities. The association is prioritizing submissions that address housing, climate change, technology, and shifting political landscapes.

Beyond traditional urban planning, the organization is soliciting content regarding career development and infrastructure. Professionals interested in contributing to the program or volunteering as session reviewers can access submission guidelines through the APA website. With nearly 40,000 members, the Chicago-based nonprofit continues to focus on reducing social and economic barriers to effective community planning through this annual collaborative forum.
