UFP Industries to Open South Carolina Packaging Facility

UFP Industries is breaking ground on a new manufacturing plant in Cherokee County, South Carolina, a move aimed at bolstering its structural packaging capacity. The project represents a $5.31 million investment in machinery and property, with the company planning to hire 136 employees over the next five years.

The new facility will focus on wood-based packaging, catering specifically to industrial clients with complex shipping and logistics requirements across the Southeast. By positioning operations closer to key transportation corridors, the company intends to enhance its responsiveness to national customers who rely on custom steel, foam, and mixed-material solutions.

CEO Will Schwartz noted that the expansion aligns with the company’s push into higher-margin, value-added sectors. According to Scott Worthington, president of UFP Packaging, the facility’s role goes beyond simple manufacturing, as teams will collaborate directly with clients to engineer solutions for transit risks and storage challenges. The project is currently pending customary final approvals and agreements before full-scale operations commence.
