Sydney Romero Claims First-Ever AUSL Rawlings Gold Glove Award

With 45 assists and a .974 fielding percentage, Oklahoma City Spark shortstop Sydney Romero has been named the inaugural recipient of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award for the 2026 Athletes Unlimited Softball League season, marking the first time the historic defensive honor has been presented in the professional circuit.

Romero secured the award following a dominant defensive campaign that established her as the cornerstone of the Spark infield. Her performance edged out fellow finalists Jadelyn Allchin of the Utah Talons and Alyssa Brito of the Carolina Blaze, with the winner determined by a panel of general managers and coaching staff from across the league.

Mike Thompson, Chief Marketing Officer at Rawlings, noted that Romero’s instincts and consistency set a new benchmark for defensive play in the AUSL. While the Gold Glove has been a staple of Major League Baseball since 1957 and expanded to collegiate ranks in 2022, its arrival in the AUSL highlights the league’s rapid professional maturation under Commissioner Kim Ng. As the official equipment provider for the league, Rawlings continues to integrate its legacy awards into the growing professional softball landscape.
