The brand’s shift toward a house-made ranch marks a departure from standard packets, opting instead for a richer profile intended for both drizzling and dipping. To incentivize the switch, the company is offering a complimentary sample with every large pizza purchase for a limited time. Kevin King, President and CEO of Donatos, noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to lead consumer trends rather than follow them, positioning the sauce as a centerpiece of the dining experience.
The new menu items utilize this sauce in distinct ways. The Buffalo Chicken Dip Pizza combines boneless chicken wings, jalapeños, and Gorgonzola with a Mariachi spice blend over an Alfredo base, using the ranch to temper the heat. Conversely, the Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza leans into savory notes, pairing sliced chicken breast and crispy bacon with Roma tomatoes on the chain's signature thin crust. Chief Marketing Officer Jodie Conrad emphasized that the goal was to make the sauce an event, providing guests with contrasting flavor profiles that highlight the freshness of the real buttermilk base.
