The program, which supports students working toward two- or four-year degrees, emphasizes local impact. Recipients are currently pursuing diverse fields ranging from engineering and health care to public service and business. Erica Taylor, senior vice president of community impact at Golden 1, noted that the selection process prioritized students who demonstrate leadership beyond the classroom through mentorship, caregiving, and civic engagement.
Since its inception in 2013, the scholarship initiative has distributed roughly $5.5 million to nearly 600 students. This latest round of funding is part of a broader community investment strategy by the Sacramento-based institution, which currently holds over $22 billion in assets and serves more than 1.2 million members across the state.
