Eurolamp Restores Thessaloniki Water Tank with Crystalline Technology

A faulty concrete mix forced a major structural intervention at Eurolamp’s Thessaloniki logistics hub, where the company’s primary water storage tank faced significant deterioration. Engineers turned to the Penetron crystalline system to seal the underground structure and prevent further moisture ingress within the facility’s critical distribution center.

The project required an extensive overhaul of the tank’s interior, including the floor slab, walls, and ceiling. Construction crews began by hydro-blasting surfaces to clear honeycombed areas and expose construction joints. Technicians applied a bonding slurry of Penetron followed by Penecrete Mortar to address cracks and voids. To ensure long-term integrity at high-pressure points, the team installed Penebar SW 45 Rapid waterstop strips around pipe penetrations. For sections requiring recasting, the concrete mix was enhanced with Penetron Admix.

According to Theodor Mentzikofakis, managing director of Penetron Hellas, the treatment transforms the concrete into an impermeable barrier capable of self-sealing hairline cracks up to 0.5 mm. This chemical process allows the structure to withstand constant hydrostatic pressure, securing the tank against future water seepage that previously threatened the facility. The repairs safeguard the logistical operations of Eurolamp, a major supplier of electrical equipment and lighting technology serving markets across Europe and Cyprus.
