ISASecure Partners with NSA to Certify US National Security Hardware

The International Society of Automation’s subsidiary, ISASecure, is collaborating with the National Security Agency to create a specialized certification scheme for operational technology. This initiative aims to secure commercial smart controllers and components intended for use within the United States' most sensitive National Security Systems.

The partnership focuses on the High Criticality Component Security Assurance (HCSA) scheme, a framework derived from existing industry standards. By aligning with the NSA’s Operational Technology Assurance Partnership program, the new certification will serve as a mandatory benchmark for manufacturers seeking to place their products on the government’s compliant product list. The technical requirements draw heavily from the ISA 62443-4-2 standard and the specific security guidelines published by the NSA in April 2025.

Dr. Mark P. DeAngelo, program manager for ISASecure, described the collaboration as a milestone for the organization. For manufacturers, the HCSA certificate acts as a critical prerequisite for procurement eligibility in national defense environments. ISASecure is currently inviting industry stakeholders and component makers to participate in the development of these rigorous security protocols to ensure that smart controllers meet the heightened demands of federal infrastructure.
