The technical requirements draw heavily from the ISA 62443-4-2 standard and the specific security guidelines published by the NSA in April 2025.

Dr. Mark P. DeAngelo, program manager for ISASecure, described the collaboration as a milestone for the organization. For manufacturers, the HCSA certificate acts as a critical prerequisite for procurement eligibility in national defense environments. ISASecure is currently inviting industry stakeholders and component makers to participate in the development of these rigorous security protocols to ensure that smart controllers meet the heightened demands of federal infrastructure.
