Geotab Interns Bridge Academic Theory With Enterprise AI Application

At its Oakville headquarters, Geotab is transitioning its internship program from traditional shadowing to direct enterprise AI deployment. As the latest cohort concludes their tenure, the company reports that students are moving beyond introductory tasks to actively integrate artificial intelligence into core business workflows and technical problem-solving.

Throughout their placements, interns worked alongside full-time staff to master platforms like the Geotab Internal AI Assistant (GIA). The program prioritizes responsible AI use, requiring students to apply human oversight while evaluating data for business outcomes. This hands-on approach culminated in the Intern Innovation Challenge, a cross-functional initiative where teams identified operational inefficiencies and developed custom tools, including automated inventory management systems and new data dashboards.

Klaus Boeckers, Chief People Officer at Geotab, noted that providing students with access to modern technology tools is essential for bridging the gap between classroom theory and professional requirements. For participants like Product Coordinator Intern Rohan Rajanwal, the experience offered a chance to see how quickly complex ideas, such as AI-driven photo analyzers for unlabelled parts, could move from concept to functional reality. Over the last five years, the initiative has hosted more than 1,000 interns, functioning as a primary pipeline for the company's full-time recruitment efforts.
