Simultaneously, Amazon is deepening its Scandinavian presence with four additional wind projects developed by Eolus AB and OX2 AB. These latest acquisitions bring Amazon’s total wind energy capacity in Sweden near the 1-gigawatt threshold, sufficient to supply 350,000 homes annually.
This infrastructure push reflects a broader industry trend among hyperscalers facing runaway energy consumption. According to the International Energy Agency, global demand for data center electricity spiked 17% last year, with AI-focused facilities recording a 50% increase. By embedding itself directly into utility-scale renewable projects, Amazon is attempting to stabilize its energy costs while meeting internal sustainability targets amid a global race for reliable, carbon-free power.
