Vulnerable demographics, including lower-income households and older consumers, reported the most significant declines in confidence.
Economic outlooks are darkening, with expected business conditions falling by 10% for the year ahead and 13% over the five-year horizon. While year-ahead inflation expectations eased to 4.0% from 4.2% in July, they remain significantly elevated compared to February levels. Meanwhile, long-run expectations held firm at 3.3%. Gold remains sensitive to these shifting outlooks, currently trading down 0.99% as investors weigh geopolitical tensions and domestic economic uncertainty.
