Following a comprehensive 400-page submission from the company, the FDA confirmed it has no further questions regarding ByHeart’s internal investigation or its proposed corrective actions. This follows on-site facility inspections that traced the presence of Clostridium botulinum to a powdered whole milk ingredient sourced from an external provider rather than ByHeart’s own production line.
To prevent future incidents, ByHeart is implementing an Advanced C. botulinum Safety Protocol. This system introduces testing capabilities 1,000 times more sensitive than standard industry methodology, capable of detecting bacteria at 0.01 CFU/g. CEO Ron Belldegrun stated that while this review marks a significant milestone, the company remains focused on finalizing its pre-production commitments. Before restarting operations, ByHeart must provide the FDA with 28 days of advance notice and complete all remaining verification activities.
