For Cox and Hofmann, the decision to align with NEXA was driven by a shared commitment to education within the veteran community. They intend to combat persistent misinformation regarding VA loans, leveraging NEXA’s existing partnerships—most notably with Vetted VA—to amplify their reach. By integrating into a larger infrastructure, the duo seeks to shed the administrative burdens of running an independent brokerage, such as licensing, compliance, and payroll, allowing them to focus on business growth and advocacy.
Beyond the mission-driven aspect, the partnership grants Mortgage Nerds access to enhanced servicing capabilities and long-term borrower retention tools. NEXA CEO Mike Kortas emphasized that the acquisition is designed to empower entrepreneurs, not absorb them; Mortgage Nerds will retain its brand identity and continue operating its affiliated processing arm, Processing Nerds. This shift reflects a broader trend in the broker channel where independent entities seek scale through centralized technology and revenue-sharing models, ultimately aiming to transform the VA loan from a misunderstood option into a preferred industry standard.
