San Jose Sanitation Workers Secure Five-Year Labor Deal

More than 60 drivers and mechanics employed by California Waste Solutions have ratified a new five-year collective bargaining agreement. Represented by Teamsters Local 350, the workers secured significant wage increases, enhanced job protections for relief staff, and expanded vacation time in a deal covering services for 170,000 households.

The agreement marks a pivotal shift for the bargaining unit, which provides critical recycling services across the San Jose region. Negotiators emphasized that the contract includes an industry-leading ninth week of vacation, a move intended to set a higher standard for labor conditions within the waste management sector.

Sergio Arrañaga, a Local 350 business agent, credited the ratification to the collective resolve of the workforce during a period of economic pressure. Robert Sandoval, Secretary-Treasurer of the union, noted that the committee prioritized both immediate economic gains and long-term workplace rules to ensure the contract met the specific demands of the membership. Teamsters Local 350 continues to maintain a broad footprint in the recycling and waste industries across four Northern California counties.
