St. Louis Inventor Designs Dual-Position Steering System

After a knee injury left him unable to operate a vehicle for six weeks, a St. Louis inventor conceptualized the Double Steering Wheel to allow driving from the passenger seat. The patent-pending system aims to broaden vehicle accessibility for those facing temporary or permanent physical limitations.

The mechanism provides a functional alternative to standard driver-side controls, offering an adjustable interface that can be configured for use from either side of the cabin. By decoupling the act of driving from a fixed seat, the design targets a diverse user base, including elderly motorists, individuals with disabilities, and driving schools requiring instructor-side intervention. The invention is currently being managed by InventHelp and is available for licensing or acquisition by automotive manufacturers looking to diversify their vehicle control offerings.
