Gen Z Travelers Resist the AI Revolution

While Gen Z is typically seen as the vanguard of digital adoption, new data from Squaremouth reveals they are the generation most skeptical of AI in travel. Only 38% of these younger travelers view artificial intelligence as integral to their trips, a stark contrast to the higher confidence found among older cohorts.

The broader trend shows a significant shift in behavior, with the share of travelers who avoid AI for trip planning plummeting from 63.1% in 2025 to 27.6% today. Despite this surge in usage, deep-seated apprehension persists. Only 16.7% of all travelers report having high or complete trust in AI when handling sensitive tasks like payment processing or ticketing.

Jacquelline Mondelli, Chief Marketing Officer at Squaremouth, suggests that adoption does not equate to reliance. Travelers are actively steering the technology toward transparency rather than automation. Surveys indicate that 71.2% of users prefer AI to function as a tool for summarizing complex insurance coverage, while 51.9% prioritize side-by-side plan comparisons. Ultimately, travelers are signaling a clear preference: they want AI to clarify their options, not make the final call.
