Sharon Price John Pivots Carter’s Toward a New Brand Identity

After a 13-year tenure revitalizing Build-A-Bear Workshop, CEO Sharon Price John is turning her focus to the struggling apparel retailer Carter’s, launching a brand promise centered on child support and a refreshed visual identity to stabilize the company’s position in a tightening retail market.

Sharon Price John Pivots Carter’s Toward a New Brand Identity

The company’s shift centers on the new mission, "Let every child's light shine," which will manifest through updated social media channels and a marketing campaign launching this week. These efforts serve as the foundation for a broader operational overhaul, with physical retail and packaging changes slated for a 2027 rollout.

Price John faces a difficult fiscal climate, as the company issued a profitability warning in July citing the impact of ongoing tariffs. This follows a period of aggressive contraction, during which the retailer moved to close approximately 150 North American locations and slashed its office workforce by 15%, resulting in 300 job cuts. The new leadership aims to preserve the brand's core reputation for essential baby apparel while diversifying its output to include community-focused resources and partnerships.
