CordenPharma Names Jean-Luc Herbeaux as CEO to Lead Expansion

CordenPharma has tapped industry veteran Dr. Jean-Luc Herbeaux to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2026. The appointment marks a strategic pivot for the global contract development and manufacturing organization as it looks to capitalize on recent acquisitions and solidify its position in the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Herbeaux joins the Basel-based company from Hovione, where he spent four years as CEO. His background also includes senior leadership roles at specialty chemicals giant Evonik. At CordenPharma, he will oversee the execution of long-term growth initiatives, supported by private equity firm Astorg. His mandate centers on scaling operational capacity and integrating the firm’s global network, which currently spans 13 facilities across the US, Europe, and Asia.

Outgoing CEO Dr. Michael Quirmbach leaves behind a legacy of rapid financial expansion. During his 12-year tenure, including seven years as CEO, the company’s annual revenue climbed from €245 million to over €1 billion. Quirmbach will not exit the firm entirely; he is transitioning into a role as a Board Member and Senior Advisor to provide continuity as the company absorbs recent additions like the peptide specialist AmbioPharm. With approximately 3,500 employees, CordenPharma enters this leadership change following a 2025 fiscal year that saw sales reach €960 million.
