Revolut secures Colombian banking license for 2027 debut

With nearly 200,000 prospective customers already signed up for its services, British fintech giant Revolut has officially cleared the final regulatory hurdle in Colombia. The company secured a banking license this week, marking a pivotal expansion into the South American market after months of negotiations with local financial authorities.

To support this entry, Revolut is injecting an additional $62 million into the country. This capital infusion effectively doubles the firm’s initial investment, specifically targeting the build-out of robust digital banking infrastructure and proprietary financial technology. While the license provides the legal framework to operate, the company is eyeing a 2027 launch date for its full suite of services.

Revolut currently counts over 80 million users across its global network. By establishing a formal presence in Bogota, the firm aims to convert its substantial domestic waiting list into active account holders, positioning itself to compete directly with both established local banks and regional neobanks in one of the continent's most active fintech hubs.
