Intel Shares Climb on Potential SK Hynix Ohio Manufacturing Deal

Intel stock surged 4.85% to $101.85 in premarket trading following reports of potential negotiations with SK Hynix. The collaboration aims to utilize Intel’s planned Ohio facility for memory chip production, signaling a significant shift in domestic semiconductor manufacturing aligned with President Trump’s industrial objectives.

Intel Shares Climb on Potential SK Hynix Ohio Manufacturing Deal

The proposed arrangement, reportedly involving either a leasing agreement or a joint venture with cloud-computing hyperscalers, positions Intel as a central player in the administration’s drive to secure domestic chip supply chains. While Intel remains noncommittal, citing a policy against speculation, the company reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating site readiness at its Ohio location.

Analysts suggest that the participation of cloud providers is the critical component of any such deal, rather than a simple bilateral partnership. However, obstacles remain, as the South Korean government may view SK Hynix’s advanced chip operations as a matter of national strategic importance. SK Hynix confirmed it is exploring new production bases but maintains that no definitive plans have been established. This potential expansion follows a period of rapid recovery for Intel, which saw its shares more than quadruple after the U.S. government acquired a 10% stake in the company last August.
