The facility, which manufactures coated and uncoated recycled paperboard alongside gypsum paper grades, struggled to maintain profitability. Executives cited the mill’s specific configuration and its limited integration within the broader company network as primary obstacles to effective competition. While the coated business is being abandoned, management intends to shift existing uncoated recycled paperboard customers to other sites within its North American network.
Gaylord Benner, senior vice president of the sustainable fiber solutions unit, characterized the closure as a deliberate choice to refocus capital and competitive efforts. This restructuring reflects a broader push to concentrate on high-performance sectors, signaling an end to the company’s footprint in this specific segment of the paper industry.
