Colorado Springs Families Launch Down Syndrome Achievement Center

After years of grassroots fundraising and advocacy, local parents are opening the 64th GiGi’s Playhouse on September 26. The new Colorado Springs facility aims to provide free educational, therapeutic, and career-development programs, transforming the Pikes Peak region into a hub for individuals with Down syndrome to learn and grow.

The project’s roots trace back to Katie Stoddard, whose daughter Margo was born with Down syndrome. Stoddard discovered the national network online but found no local affiliate, sparking a drive to build a dedicated space where children could be supported regardless of their ZIP code. Alongside fellow committee member Stephanie Kerscher, she helped mobilize a community effort to create a facility that serves everyone from infants to adults.

Located at 2360 Montebello Square Dr, the center will offer signature programs including literacy and math tutoring, GiGiFIT, and specialized career-readiness training. All services remain entirely free of charge, supported by volunteers and donors. Founder Nancy Gianni and her daughter, GiGi, are scheduled to attend the grand opening on September 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to mark the milestone. Beyond direct therapy, the space is designed as a community hub for parents and siblings to foster long-term connections and advocate for broader social inclusion.
