To earn the designation, the university underwent a rigorous review involving over 1,000 stakeholders, including alumni, faculty, and regional employers. Internal surveys bolstered the bid, with 92% of students affirming the institution's commitment to technology commercialization and a strong majority of residents crediting the school for positive regional economic impact. President Adam Hasner noted that 80% of graduates remain in South Florida, cementing the institution's status as a primary engine for local industry.
Beyond the prestige, the APLU program requires a commitment to continuous assessment and strategic alignment. The university is currently integrating these findings into its five-year plan, "2031FAU: Where Tomorrow Begins," which emphasizes student success and geographic advantage. Recent efforts, such as the President's Internship Program for Community Impact—which facilitated over 100 paid positions in its first semester—serve as a blueprint for how the university intends to leverage its resources to meet labor market demands in the government and nonprofit sectors.
