Global EV Battery Metal Prices: Current Market Benchmarks

The cost of essential raw materials for electric vehicle batteries remains under pressure as of the latest Benchmark Mineral Intelligence data. With lithium carbonate currently trading at $20,700 per metric ton and cobalt sulphate holding at $9,089, manufacturers are navigating a volatile landscape of supply chain inputs in the Chinese market.

Global EV Battery Metal Prices: Current Market Benchmarks

Lithium hydroxide, a critical component for high-nickel battery chemistries, sits at $19,700 per metric ton, trailing its carbonate counterpart. Downstream, nickel sulphate prices are recorded at $4,358 per metric ton, while flake graphite is currently priced at $425 per metric ton. These figures, quoted in dollars per metric ton on an ex-works or free-on-board basis, serve as the primary industry reference for battery production costs.

Price stability varies by commodity due to distinct reporting cadences. Benchmark Mineral Intelligence updates its figures for lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, and cobalt sulphate on a weekly basis, reflecting the rapid shifts in demand. Nickel sulphate valuations follow a bi-weekly cycle, while flake graphite prices are assessed monthly, providing a broader view of the carbon-based anode material market.
