The surge was anchored by high-performing titles, most notably Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey. Regal captured 18.2% and 19.5% of the market share for these films, respectively, exceeding its general 16.5% market footprint. CEO Eduardo Acuña attributed the results to a combination of studio output and internal operational improvements, noting that the season’s success relied on a steady flow of varied content, including Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Mandalorian and Grogu, which kept theaters occupied throughout the entire window.
Premium large formats emerged as a critical engine for this growth. Revenue from these formats jumped 63% year-over-year, accounting for 22% of total summer earnings. IMAX screens led the expansion by more than doubling their revenue, while RPX, ScreenX, and 4DX also saw double-digit gains. This shift toward high-end experiences was particularly pronounced for major releases like The Odyssey, where premium formats generated over 60% of the gross. Despite this premium focus, standard screen revenue still rose 29%, signaling broad-based demand across the company’s 7,648-screen global footprint.
