The recognition highlights the firm’s Making An Impact program, an initiative launched in 2018 to formalize the company’s philanthropic efforts. Focused on education, the environment, and family support, the program encourages staff to participate in donation drives and volunteer projects. Employees receive one paid workday annually to serve at a nonprofit of their choice, complemented by a corporate matching gift policy.
Since the program's inception, the insurer has recorded over 1,500 volunteer hours and 800 individual donations. Financial contributions to national charitable causes have surpassed $2 million. Grant Ward, President and CEO of Boston Mutual Life, attributed the streak to the dedication of the company’s workforce. According to Carolyn Jones, Market President and Publisher of the Boston Business Journal, the annual list celebrates companies that donated at least $100,000 to Massachusetts-based charities in 2025, a year in which honorees collectively contributed over $417 million.
