Mexican Health Institute Gains Global Research Accreditation

The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs has granted full accreditation to the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán in Mexico City. This milestone marks the first time one of Mexico’s 13 National Institutes of Health has met the organization’s rigorous international research standards.

The Mexico City-based institute becomes the second organization in the country to join the AAHRPP network, which now encompasses more than 600 entities worldwide. By securing this status, the facility commits to the association's framework for protecting human research participants and maintaining high-level oversight. AAHRPP president and CEO Elyse I. Summers described the accreditation as a definitive mark of quality, noting that global research partners increasingly prioritize this certification when selecting collaborators.

Alongside this new entry, five established institutions earned reaccreditation: Baylor College of Medicine, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Kyung Hee University Hospital, Daegu Catholic University Medical Center, and the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. To sustain this status, all participating organizations must demonstrate ongoing adherence to comprehensive safety protocols and a dedication to continuous improvement in their research operations.
