Sidhu, speaking during a visit to Mumbai, noted that negotiators are scheduled to meet in Canada next month to bridge remaining gaps. A further meeting between leaders is anticipated on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in December. The agreement is expected to focus heavily on the energy sector, specifically liquefied natural gas and nuclear cooperation.
Canada currently has one operational LNG export facility led by Shell and several others in development. Discussions are underway regarding how Indian firms can secure supply and invest in these Canadian projects. Beyond hydrocarbons, Canada aims to leverage its nuclear industry expertise to help build out India’s expanding power supply chain.
Strategic investments are also expanding into raw materials. Major Indian conglomerates, including Reliance Industries, Mahindra and Mahindra, and the JSW Group, are exploring participation in Canadian critical mineral projects. According to Sidhu, these moves are driven by a growing corporate desire to insulate supply chains against geopolitical weaponization.
