The application seeks full approval for ARIKAYCE, an amikacin liposome inhalation suspension, as part of a combination regimen for Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) lung disease. This regulatory milestone follows positive data from the Phase 3b ENCORE study, which met its primary endpoint and secondary culture conversion targets. The study demonstrated statistically significant improvements in respiratory symptoms and culture conversion among adults when compared to traditional multidrug therapy alone.

Martina Flammer, Chief Medical Officer at Insmed, noted that the progressive nature of MAC lung disease makes early intervention critical to preventing permanent tissue damage. ARIKAYCE originally received accelerated approval in 2018 under the Limited Population Pathway for Antibacterial and Antifungal Drugs. The current submission aims to fulfill post-marketing requirements and potentially expand the drug's label. Beyond the U.S. market, the company plans to share the ENCORE study findings with Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency later this year to support potential expansion in that region.
