The meeting provided the company with a clearer regulatory roadmap, significantly lowering the uncertainty surrounding its development program. CEO Linda Tempelman noted that the guidance allows the team to accelerate its preclinical work with increased precision. The O2Line system aims to bypass the need for systemic immunosuppression—a major barrier to current cell therapy adoption—by using a core-shell nanofibrous capsule combined with an electrochemical oxygen generator to keep cells viable in the body.
By ensuring a continuous oxygen supply and providing protection against fibrosis, the technology is designed to enable long-term function without the risks associated with traditional anti-rejection drugs. Preclinical success has already been demonstrated in immunocompetent rats, where the system maintained diabetes correction using densely packed allogeneic islets. Looking ahead, the company is shifting focus toward large-animal porcine models and scaling up commercial manufacturing capacity for its cell capsules, while actively seeking partnerships to expand the platform’s utility to conditions like obesity and chronic inflammation.
