Genezen and InterAct Therapeutics to Advance Liver-Directed Cancer Therapy

Patients diagnosed with breast cancer liver metastases currently face a median survival of just two to three years, a grim statistic that InterAct Therapeutics aims to change. The company has partnered with CDMO Genezen to manufacture IAT-S2, a novel AAV8-based gene therapy designed to suppress metastatic growth within the liver.

The IAT-S2 program, which originated in the laboratory of Dr. Isaac Chan at UT Southwestern Medical Center, represents a shift in oncology research. Instead of focusing solely on cancer cells, the therapy targets hepatocytes to modify the liver microenvironment, effectively depriving metastatic cells of the conditions they need to survive. Preclinical studies in mice demonstrated a near-total elimination of liver metastases across five distinct models.

Genezen will leverage its Indianapolis-based facility to provide process development, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing. This support is critical for InterAct Therapeutics as the company prepares for IND-enabling studies and a future Phase 1 clinical trial. Following positive feedback from the FDA, the collaboration aims to accelerate the transition of this laboratory discovery into a clinical-stage disease-modifying treatment.
