The study, conducted by the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association and analyzed by SSRS, surveyed 1,167 individuals to assess the impact of plasma-derived medicines. Data reveals that 69% of patients or their caregivers noticed health changes within a few months of treatment, while 26% reported improvements in just a few days. For many, these therapies are not sporadic interventions but a recurring necessity; 41% of respondents require weekly infusions to manage conditions such as primary immunodeficiencies, bleeding disorders, and neurological illnesses.
Beyond clinical outcomes, the survey highlights a strong sense of connection between those receiving care and the donors who provide it. With 87% of patients expressing confidence in the safety and efficacy of their treatments, the results serve as a focal point for this year’s awareness campaign. PPTA President Anita Brikman noted that the data puts the life-changing impact of these therapies into perspective, bridging the gap between donor generosity and the daily lives of patients like Christy Savino, who relies on plasma medication to manage a primary immunodeficiency.
