Testing Your Battery Safety Knowledge During Fire Prevention Week

The average American household now relies on 11 lithium-powered devices, yet most users lack formal training on how to handle them. To address this, recycling firm Cirba Solutions has launched an online quiz during Fire Prevention Week, challenging consumers to refine their daily charging and disposal habits.

The Battery Smarts Quiz distills industry research into a 10-question format, targeting common risks like improper charging environments and unsafe disposal methods. This initiative aligns with the National Fire Protection Association’s current theme, which emphasizes that safe charging practices are essential for household fire prevention.

Karen Gay, Community Engagement Manager at Cirba Solutions, noted that the quiz was designed to close specific knowledge gaps identified in their recent consumer study. While 91 percent of Americans express a willingness to recycle lithium batteries, many remain unsure of the logistical steps required to do so. The quiz provides actionable advice on everything from identifying warning signs of swelling to the necessity of taping battery terminals before disposal, categorizing users from "Champion Charger" to "Reset Required."
