The United States Patent and Trademark Office recently granted the patents to the Los Angeles-based biotechnology firm, reinforcing the legal foundation for its clinical-stage programs. U.S. Patent No. 12,751,983 covers methods for treating Staphylococcus aureus infections using AP-SA02, while U.S. Patent No. 12,594,312 protects the company’s AP-PA02 program for addressing Pseudomonas infections. These additions bring Armata’s total global holdings to 101 issued patents and 60 pending applications.
CEO Dr. Deborah Birx emphasized that these patents are central to the company’s strategy of shielding its proprietary phage platform from market competition. As Armata prepares to launch a Phase 3 superiority study for AP-SA02 later this year, the extended intellectual property runway provides critical stability. The company continues to advance its pipeline, targeting high-need areas like cystic fibrosis and complicated bacteremia, supported by a broad portfolio that now spans 15 patent families.
