SKDK Launches Specialized Practice for Health System Payer Negotiations

Nearly half of American patients report recent insurance coverage disruptions, a statistic fueling SKDK’s decision to launch a dedicated Payer Negotiation Practice. As hospital systems face aggressive reimbursement demands from insurers, the firm aims to move these high-stakes contract battles from the boardrooms into the public arena.

The initiative arrives as financial pressures on healthcare providers intensify, driven by declining federal Medicare and Medicaid rates alongside a rising uninsured population. SKDK President Mike Morey noted that insurers increasingly leverage media campaigns to undermine the reputations of hospitals during contract disputes. By deploying its public affairs, research, and media strategy teams, the firm intends to help health systems defend their positions while communicating directly with the patients caught in the middle.

Data from a recent HarrisX poll highlights the urgency of this pivot. Approximately 79% of Americans prioritize keeping preferred doctors within their insurance networks. When these relationships break down, the fallout is significant: 30% of affected patients report delaying or canceling essential procedures, while 29% experience direct disruptions to their continuity of care. Because patients trust their providers over insurance companies by a nearly two-to-one margin, SKDK plans to leverage this credibility to help clients navigate public sentiment during volatile negotiations.
