The 120,000-square-foot plant operates as the anchor of a 23-acre eco-hub, co-locating residential single-stream processing with construction and demolition recovery. With a capacity to handle 220,000 tons of material annually, the site accounts for half of Montréal’s residential recycling and a quarter of all curbside volume across Quebec. By centralizing these operations, the company significantly curtails hauling emissions while streamlining the movement of commodities to North American end-markets.
Patrick Dovigi, founder and CEO of GFL, noted that this recognition marks the third time since 2020 that one of the firm's facilities has secured the award. The Montréal-East site prioritizes worker safety through climate-controlled quality control stations and automated fire suppression systems, moving beyond traditional recovery methods. This infrastructure reflects a broader strategy to combine high-capacity automation with environmental impact, setting a standard for modern resource recovery operations.
