The financing round, led by Dynagrow Capital with participation from MintPharma Capital, marks a transition for the ophthalmic firm as it moves its needle-free episcleral implant from the laboratory toward patient care. Developed by Dr. Karl Csaky and licensed from the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, the platform aims to replace traditional, burdensome intraocular injections by providing sustained, targeted drug delivery to retinal tissues.
Philip A. Gioia, CEO of Vinci Pharmaceuticals, stated that the capital ensures the company can complete the necessary GMP manufacturing and testing for its VCI-002 product. By utilizing a bioerodible design capable of delivering various small molecules, the firm intends to address high patient dropout rates associated with current, more invasive treatment standards. Sarah Hassan of Dynagrow Capital noted that the platform represents a potential paradigm shift for clinicians, offering a more manageable approach for patients facing chronic retinal disease.
