ALCMI and Sophos IRB Partner to Streamline Lung Cancer Clinical Trials

Research teams often face fragmented processes when navigating regulatory oversight for complex oncology trials. To solve this, the Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute (ALCMI) and Sophos IRB have formed a strategic partnership, aiming to provide consistent, oncology-specialized ethical review for ALCMI’s international network of lung cancer studies.

The collaboration pairs ALCMI’s consortium of 25 premier research institutions with Sophos IRB’s central review board, which is staffed specifically by oncologists. By utilizing a single partner for regulatory oversight, ALCMI aims to replace the time-consuming necessity of establishing new working processes for every individual study. This continuity allows investigators to focus on the scientific complexities of their protocols while ensuring participant safety remains the priority.

Richard Erwin, COO of ALCMI, noted that the partnership fosters deep familiarity with their research program, reducing administrative friction. Sophos IRB, which boasts over 144 years of combined oncology experience among its board members, will provide the independent oversight required for multisite trials. According to Sophos CEO Brandon Evans, the agreement creates a review environment that is both responsive to operational demands and technically grounded in the realities of modern cancer research.
