The program marks the fourth bachelor's degree offering from the institution since 2020, following initiatives in early childhood education, nursing, and software development. By utilizing a tuition subscription model, the college allows students to advance through final coursework by demonstrating mastery of material rather than adhering to traditional semester timelines. This structure enables motivated learners to accelerate their progress and potentially reduce overall expenses.
For students like Octavia Kimble, who pursued an associate degree in criminal justice while balancing a career at Dallas ISD, the new pathway offers a manageable transition to higher education. The curriculum recognizes prior learning gained through professional experience, military service, or industry certifications, further shortening the time to graduation. Dr. Shawnda Floyd, Provost at Dallas College, noted that the program addresses the need for a degree that balances professional responsibilities with the leadership skills required by modern employers. A formal launch event is scheduled for October 14 at the Richland Campus to commemorate the expansion.
