Smart Revives Its Iconic Two-Seater with the All-Electric #2

Thirty years after the original smart debuted beneath the Louvre, the brand has returned to Paris to unveil the all-electric #2. The new two-seater aims to reclaim the ultra-compact urban segment, blending the classic silhouette with a purpose-built architecture designed for dense city navigation and modern electric performance.

Styled by the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team, the smart #2 maintains the hallmark wheels-at-the-corners stance while introducing a contemporary aesthetic. The vehicle utilizes the new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform, which houses a 35.8 kWh LFP battery and a rear-mounted 60 kW motor capable of 130 Nm of torque. With a curb-to-curb turning circle of 6.95 meters, the car is engineered specifically for effortless maneuvering in restricted spaces. Practicality remains a priority, evidenced by a split tailgate that doubles as a 120-kg capacity seat.

Global CEO Tong Xiangbei described the vehicle as a demonstration of the company's capabilities within the demanding urban market. To mark the launch, smart is releasing a limited Couture Edition, capped at 999 units for both Europe and China. This variant features an Atelier White Matte finish accented by a Platinum Gold roof and 16-inch Lyra rims. Beyond the aesthetics, the vehicle prioritizes safety through the Tridion Cell Evo structure and advanced driver-assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control and Highway Assist. European customers will select from three core trims—Pure, Pure+, and Premium—while the Chinese market will focus on the Premium and Couture variants.
