Freddy’s Frozen Custard Hits 600-Location Milestone in South Carolina

In Beaufort, South Carolina, the fast-casual chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers officially opened its 600th location today. The new site deviates from the brand’s traditional standalone footprint, debuting as an endcap prototype without a drive-thru, signaling a shift in how the Wichita-founded company approaches nationwide real estate.

This location, operated by the long-time franchisee Charleston Custard, features seating for 65 guests and an outdoor patio. The pivot toward in-line and endcap models allows the franchise to secure spaces in diverse trade areas that were previously inaccessible under their original development strategy. CEO Chris Dull noted that this flexibility is the primary engine behind their current expansion pace, which now targets regions including the Northeast, the Rust Belt, and the Pacific Northwest.

Beyond domestic growth, the company is looking abroad, recently finalizing a deal to establish five units in the Philippines. Since its inception in 2002, the brand has relied on a streamlined operational model to attract experienced multi-unit operators. With 600 restaurants now in operation, the company continues to solicit new franchise partners across North America, including active recruitment drives in Canada and Mexico.
