Aeon Hokkaido Profits Slide Amid Rising Costs

Aeon Hokkaido Corp. posted a sharp decline in profitability for the first half of the fiscal year ending August 31, with net profit plummeting to 85 million yen from 1.19 billion yen in the same period last year. The results reflect significant pressure on the retailer’s bottom line despite modest revenue gains.

Revenue for the period reached 188.26 billion yen, an increase from the 185.95 billion yen reported a year earlier. However, this growth failed to offset rising operational expenses, leading to a contraction in margins. Operating profit fell to 1.52 billion yen, down from 2.46 billion yen, while pretax profit dropped to 1.30 billion yen against 2.28 billion yen in the previous year.

Earnings per share mirrored the broader decline, falling to 0.62 yen from 8.55 yen. Despite the weakened financial performance, the company maintained its annual dividend forecast at 16.00 yen per share, with no interim dividend payout scheduled. These figures were prepared in accordance with Japanese accounting standards.
