Denver Residents Remain Wary of Waymo After Public Launch

A mere 3.8 out of 10 is how Denver locals rate Waymo’s commitment to public safety, according to a recent survey by Olson Personal Injury Lawyers. Despite the autonomous service launching in the city this September, residents are prioritizing accountability and transparent accident reporting over the novelty of self-driving transit.

The sentiment toward autonomous ride-hailing remains lukewarm at best, with 41% of surveyed residents stating they are unlikely to use the service. While convenience factors like airport transport or late-night trips after drinking hold some appeal, only 22% would consider using the vehicles for a daily commute. Safety concerns remain the primary hurdle, cited by 61% of participants as the most critical factor in their adoption decision.

Skepticism appears rooted in a demand for empirical evidence. Over half of the respondents indicated that access to comprehensive safety data would boost their confidence, while 49% pointed to transparent accident reporting as a necessary trust-builder. The legal implications weigh heavily on the public as well; 74% of those surveyed insist that Waymo should bear full responsibility for accidents, regardless of the underlying technical complexity. Privacy also remains a friction point, with 62% of residents expressing discomfort regarding the collection and storage of video footage from within the vehicles.
