Gerflor Integrates Nike Grind Recycled Materials into Athletic Flooring

Bolingbrook-based Gerflor North America is now incorporating repurposed footwear and manufacturing scrap into its sports flooring lines. By securing status as an authorized Nike Grind licensee, the company aims to merge sustainable material sourcing with the high-performance requirements expected by universities and professional athletic facilities.

The initiative leverages the company’s Connor Sports brand, which maintains a long-standing reputation for supplying championship-level basketball surfaces, including those for the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four. For Gerflor CEO Benjamin Bachman, the integration represents a shift toward practical material innovation that avoids sacrificing the durability of their specialized surfaces.

Zach Riberdy, Marketing Director at Connor Sports, emphasized that the move provides a pathway for facilities to prioritize responsible material use without compromising the integrity of the athletic environment. While the company utilizes Nike Grind ingredients, both Gerflor and Connor Sports operate independently of Nike, and the licensing agreement does not imply an official partnership or endorsement by the footwear giant.
