Galaxy Digital Seeks Federal Charter for National Trust Bank

Mike Novogratz’s Galaxy Digital is looking to bypass state-by-state regulatory hurdles by applying for a national trust bank charter. The New York-based crypto firm filed its request with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, aiming to consolidate its digital asset operations under a single federal regulatory framework.

Galaxy Digital Seeks Federal Charter for National Trust Bank

If granted, the proposed Galaxy National Bank would operate from New York, providing a centralized hub for the company’s existing custody, trading, and staking services. By securing a federal charter, the firm intends to streamline its fiduciary investment advisory offerings for clients across the country rather than navigating the fragmented landscape of individual state regulations.

This move comes as the company continues to aggressively expand its global footprint. Galaxy currently manages over 50 licenses across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including broker-dealer registrations with the SEC. Locally, the firm recently secured a BitLicense and money transmission authorization from the New York State Department of Financial Services, reinforcing its position as a primary service provider for institutional digital asset management.
