Vulcan Materials Earnings Slip as Weather Dampens Volume

A 3% decline in aggregate shipments pushed Vulcan Materials’ third-quarter net income to $362.3 million, missing analyst expectations of $2.81 per share. The construction materials giant reported revenue of $2.18 billion, a 4.7% drop fueled by unseasonable weather that disrupted the typical rhythm of road-building and infrastructure projects across the country.

While earnings dipped from the $374.9 million recorded a year ago, the company’s core pricing power remained resilient. Freight-adjusted selling prices for aggregates climbed 4%, or 82 cents a ton, though this gain was partially offset by a 7% increase in freight-adjusted cost of sales. The firm’s asphalt and concrete segments maintained a 17% gross profit margin, successfully navigating higher costs for liquid asphalt.

Looking toward long-term margins, management remains optimistic about pricing power. Vulcan is forecasting mid-to-high single-digit price increases for its aggregates unit by 2027, bolstered by a strategy of disciplined acquisitions. Chief Executive Ronnie Pruitt noted that these investments are intended to secure the company’s footprint in high-growth markets, even as the business targets adjusted EBITDA of roughly $2.4 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.
