Pollard Banknote Profit Falls After Michigan Contract Ends

Pollard Banknote’s third-quarter profit fell to CAD8.1 million from CAD10.3 million a year earlier, as the end of its Michigan iLottery contract weighed on results, co-Chief Executive Officer John Pollard said. Revenue rose, but both earnings and sales came in below analysts’ expectations.

For the quarter ended Sept. 30, the lottery-products and technology company earned CAD0.30 a share, down from CAD0.38 a share a year earlier. Revenue increased to CAD158.9 million from CAD156.3 million.

Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of CAD0.50 a share on revenue of CAD168.1 million. The Michigan iLottery contract ended at the beginning of the third quarter, Pollard said, and was a major factor in the lower profit.

“Although our third quarter operating results were disappointing, our contract wins and extensions over the past number of months validate our ongoing strategic investments in both the digital and retail parts of our business and provide the foundation for continued growth,” Pollard said.
