eBay Targets Fashion Growth via Depop Integration Strategy

eBay Chief Executive Jamie Iannone has detailed a strategy to replicate the company’s success in collectibles by integrating the fashion marketplace Depop into its broader ecosystem. Speaking to analysts, Iannone confirmed that while Depop will remain a standalone brand, its inventory will be cross-listed on eBay to maximize reach and sales volume.

eBay Targets Fashion Growth via Depop Integration Strategy

Scaling the Collectibles Blueprint

The move mirrors eBay’s previous expansion into the collectibles sector, where the acquisitions of platforms like TCGplayer and Goldin Auctions proved transformative. By integrating those specialized listings, eBay successfully turned collectibles into its largest driver of gross merchandise volume (GMV). Iannone noted that the company is now applying this exact "standalone but integrated" model to the high-growth fashion resale market.

According to the CEO, the integration is designed to capture the unique energy of Depop’s community while providing the scale of eBay’s global infrastructure. The strategy aims to bolster eBay’s appeal to younger consumers who prioritize vintage and secondhand apparel.

The expansion plan focuses on three primary objectives:

    • Preserving the distinct community and branding of Depop.
    • Enabling cross-platform visibility for fashion sellers to increase liquidity.
    • Leveraging eBay’s established logistics and payment systems for niche inventory.
