Eli Lilly Wins FDA Approval for Zepbound Multi-Dose Pen

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized a label expansion for Eli Lilly’s weight-loss blockbuster Zepbound, introducing a multi-dose pen that provides a full month of treatment in a single device. This update transitions the medication from its previous single-dose vial format, offering a more streamlined delivery method as the pharmaceutical giant scales to meet unprecedented global demand.

Eli Lilly Wins FDA Approval for Zepbound Multi-Dose Pen

The pharmaceutical company confirmed on Monday that the new delivery system will house four weekly injections within one device. Despite the shift in hardware, Eli Lilly stated that the medication will remain available at the same self-pay price point. The 2.5-milligram starter dose is set at $299 per month when accessed through LillyDirect, the company’s specialized direct-to-consumer digital pharmacy.

Clinical Efficacy and Market Reach

Zepbound is currently approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, as well as those who are overweight with at least one related health condition. The treatment’s clinical utility also extends to the management of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in obese patients. The label expansion comes as the company seeks to improve patient convenience in an increasingly competitive metabolic health market.

Lilly attributes the surge in demand to the drug's significant clinical outcomes. According to company reports, trial participants receiving a 15-milligram dose lost an average of 20.9% of their body weight over a 72-week period. These results significantly outperformed the placebo group, which saw a weight reduction of only 3.1% during the same timeframe.
